Earlier this year, All-Star MLB second baseman Robinson Cano signed a multi-year contract with New Balance to make them his official on-field footwear and off-field apparel provider.
As part of their deal New Balance makes custom shoes for Cano, the latest being the 4040v3. In their Fall promo, “Freight Train,” Cano steps up to the plate emphatically, bat in hand and cleats on feet. The beauty of this spot resides in its simplicity. The lights are dim and the focus is on Cano. An impending crescendo of the freight train times perfectly with Cano knocking the ball out of the park. This paints a vivid comparison, alluding the power of Cano’s hit to that of the train, all the while perfectly juxtaposing a 360˚ view of the elegant black and gold 4040v3s at the end of the clip.
We worked with costume designer and stylist Frances Kenny to make sure that Cano was dressed the part — jersey, pants, batter’s helmet, belt, stirrups, and batting gloves. We also decked out the catcher in their uniform, including their catcher’s mask and glove.
