Grease: Live | Fox

Film remakes are difficult, especially when the original is iconic. To recapture the original essence, charm, and nostalgia proves to be no easy task.

But after 38 years, Grease aired on Fox television with one major caveat: the remake was aired live. A nostalgic moment for most viewers, Grease: Live ushered a new experience for children and teenagers around the nation.

In multiple ways this performance posits similarities to the original 1978 film: same songs, same outfits, same 50’s lingo. Yet, what makes this production stand out from its predecessor is how they approached the live aspect.

The camera follows actors off stage and behind the scenes, giving viewers access to the side of a show that is rarely seen, including last minute changes and additions. By giving viewers insight to what happens behind the scenes, viewers gain a fresh perspective of a live production. It truly demonstrates the crazy amount of work, talent, and dedication that needs to go into a successful live show.

We helped out by working with costume designer Nanrose Buchman to provide the Rydell High football and basketball uniforms. As the leading provider of vintage sports wardrobe, we ensure the right fabrics and styles are used for the 1950s, all while maintaining the same wardrobe details are included from the original Grease.

If you missed it the first time, the show will re-air on Sunday March 27th on Fox.
