“Made in New York ft. Derek Jeter” | Gatorade

And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.”

In this opus from Gatorade, Smuggler, and TBWA\Chiat\Day, we start with a juxtaposition of an establishing shot of the Bronx skyline, and “My Way,” by none other than the quintessential New Yorker, Frank Sinatra. (Fun fact: Jeter chose this song himself.)

While the RE2PECT tribute from Jordan is laden with celebrities tipping their hats in an emotional farewell to Jeter, “Made In New York” highlights the relationship between the regular citizens of New York and Jeter.

With the focus pulled away from baseball and the spotlight set on the people, one has to ask: what did Sports Studio provide for this commercial?

In scenes from the unedited footage, we placed Jordan brand gear, a Rawlings helmet and glove, a Louisville Slugger, and Majestic apparel. We even had a last minute request from Smuggler asking us if we could provide an extra New York Yankees jersey, which was easy for us to provide.

While remaining refined, this spot strikes a balance between personable and bittersweet, one that is befitting of Jeter’s retirement. “Made In New York” will air on TV for the first time Saturday on Fox and the YES Network.

“I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.”
