In the lead up to Super Bowl 50, brands are starting to unveil sneak peeks to the ads they will air during the Big Game. The first brand to unveil their full one minute and ten second masterpiece though, is Pokémon.
If you were alive in the 90s and early 2000s, chances are that you used your handy Gameboy Color and/or Gameboy Advance to catch them all. As this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl, 2016 also marks the 20th anniversary of our beloved pocket monsters.
To commemorate this special milestone, Pokémon created website Pokemon20.com as a hub for all things centered around the brand, and a Super Bowl video spot, “#Pokemon20.” Utilizing the timeless themes of training and inclusivity, ad agency Omelet cooked up a video that is inspiring, nostalgic, and relevant, all at once.
We worked with production company Iconoclast and ad agency Omelet to provide the youth football uniforms seen in the stills below. As the entertainment licensee of the NFL, we are Hollywood’s football headquarters and the go-to for football event apparel. If you see any commercial that has sports on screen, chances are we worked on it. We loved how #Pokemon20 turned out, and are excited to see what they have in store for the rest of the year.
