Rob Lowe has a knack for deadpan humor in the latest Fox Sports commercials. In a cross-promotional move for Fox Sports and Rob Lowe’s new comedy on Fox, “The Grinder,” Lowe appears in a series of 30-second spots, featuring everything from holograms to robots to accountant Ed Vogel.
In one spot, Rob Lowe vibes on the Fox NFL theme song, elaborating on the supposed origins of the song written by accountant Ed Vogel (Fun fact: the NFL on Fox theme song was actually composed by Scott Schreer).
In another spot, Rob admires a hologram of New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin, mostly for looking great at the age of 69. Then, Rob pulls up a future hologram of himself, wondering what he would look like at age 69 (Spoiler alert: he likes what he sees).
Our favorite spot though, is the one where Rob talks to Fox Sports’ mascot, Cleatus. Cleatus is a freakishly large robot that remains quiet throughout the spot, but eventually gives Rob what could only be considered an angry glare. You’ll have to see it for yourself.
You can see our work in the other videos below as well. Sports Studio worked with production company Hungry Man to provide all of the NFL helmets — Packers, Saints, Hawks, Rams, Cowboys, Jets, Eagles, 49ers — seen in the background of these ads.
