Visa just released a commercial to celebrate their 30 year-sponsorship of the Olympic games and included over 20 Olympic athletes from around the world. These athletes partnered with Visa and make up Team Visa. With this unique partnership, Visa provides each team member with financial assistance and marketing exposure.
According to Business Wire, all of the athletes included in this spot are, “Missy Franklin (USA – Swimming), Ibtihaj Muhammad (USA – Fencing), Carli Lloyd (USA – Soccer), Kerri Walsh Jennings (USA – Beach Volleyball), Valerie Adams(New Zealand – Shot Put), Ashton Eaton (USA – Decathlon), Terezinha Guilhermina (Brazil – Paralympic Athletics), Jennifer Abel (Canada – Diving), Pamela Ware (Canada – Diving), Alison Cerutti (Brazil – Beach Volleyball), Wayde van Niekerk(South Africa – Athletics), Daiya Seto (Japan – Swimming), Kanako Watanabe (Japan – Swimming) and Maria Espinoza(Mexico – Taekwondo).”
Visa is the only credit card brand accepted at the games, so through this commercial, the athletes demonstrate the 4 ways Visa allows their customers to pay. You can click, swipe, dip, and tap. In other words, you click using the Visa app on your phone, swipe your Visa card, dip your Visa card in the chip reader, and tap using Google Wallet on your phone.
One of the newest forms of payment that isn’t included in this commercial, but will be debuted by Team Visa in Rio is the new Visa Ring. All you have to do is just tap the ring on the terminal to make purchases.
“Carpool to Rio” was created by creative agency, BBDO NY, directed by AG Rojas, and produced by Park Pictures. We worked with Park Pictures to provide artwork, mock ups, and wardrobe for this entire commercial. More specifically, we provided all of the track tanks and shorts, warm up jackets and pants, windbreakers, sweatshirts, fencing equipment, and swimming gear. Lastly, we added all of the athletes’ names, countries, and flags to each of these items.
